What do you mean by arthropods
Arthropod came from a greek word arthron which means jointed and pous which means foot. Arthropods are invertebrate animals which have a characteristic jointed legs. They also usually have a protective covering on their body called exoskeleton which is usually made up of chitin, a special kind of carbohydrate which share the same characteristics to cellulose. Aside from those, arthropods are known to have body segments which is usually divided into a body plan of head or thorax, abdomen, and tail. Like their other invertebrate relatives, they also have an open circulatory system which means that their blood flows freely into cavities, unlike ours which are confined in spaces called blood vessels.
Examples of groups of animals in the phylum arthropoda are insects, crustaceans, and arachnids.
